Ok… You’ll have to bear with me for this brief moment of tech-nerdy-graphic-web-design craziness, but last week a very important thing happened on the interweb.

Very quietly, Google changed their favicon.

For those of you who don’t know, favicons are the small, 16×16 pixel icons that appear in most modern web browsers by the web address.  Google’s favicon had been this:

And now it’s this:

I must say that I love the new favicon!  I wondered why the most visited, visible, crazy rich internet brand in the entire world couldn’t afford a slightly better design than a box with a capital G in it.

Having tried and failed numerous times to create attractive favicons that make sense, this one’s a winner.
